Dr. Emily Volk is a practicing pathologist with a 20-years history of leadership in health care and professional organizations.
Recruited by the Baptist Health System (BHS) Department of Pathology (Austin, TX) Dr. Volk turned around laboratory operations to regain full accreditation, improve blood product utilization by 30%, standardize policies and procedures across five hospitals, and save BHS over $3.8 million.
Dr. Volk is a tenacious advocate for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. As Vice Chair of the College of American Pathologists Council on Government and Professional Affairs, Dr. Volk has been instrumental in averting CMS cuts to pathology reimbursement. As a member of the Board of Directors of the BHS Accountable Care Organization (ACO) she orchestrated the installation of pathologists on the ACO governing board and negotiated their participation in the ACO’s shared savings.
Dr. Volk is a Regional Laboratory Medical Director of BHS and a Governor of the College of American Pathologists.
