For 25 years, Dr. David Novis provided anatomical and clinical pathology services for, and was managing partner of Young Novis PA. His professional positions have included chief of pathology and laboratory director for hospitals in New Hampshire (NH) and Maine, the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Student Health Services, and for private laboratories including Oxford Immunotec and Courtagen Life Sciences. He was a Trustee of Wentworth Douglass Hospital for which he received the New Hampshire Hospital Association’s Trustee of the Year Award.
Dr. Novis was a founder of Physicians Professional Management Corporation, a medical billing and practice management company, and founder and managing partner of Northeast New England Pathology Associates, a consortium of several pathology groups providing services throughout New England.
Dr. Novis was president of the NH Society of Pathologists and the Society’s Legislative and Political Affairs advisor, President of the Northeast Medical Association, a member of the strategic planning task force for the American Association of Cytopathology, adviser to the UNH Department of Health Management & Policy, a Consultant for Quality and Performance Improvement for the University of Pittsburgh-CDC Cooperative Agreement, and a Medical Field Consultant and lecturer for Project Hope.
Since 1988, Dr. Novis has at various intervals, served the College of American Pathologists (CAP) as Speaker of the House of Delegates, Member of the Board of Governors, and member of several committees and councils including Government Affairs, Education, Cancer, Point of Care, Practice Management and Quality Practices (QPC). As a member and vice-chairman of the QPC, Dr. Novis designed and published performance outcome studies (Q-Probes Studies), many of which have become the bases of current standard practices in pathology and laboratory medicine. He has been a CAP Accreditation Inspector Team Leader, overseeing and performing accrediting inspections for laboratories worldwide. The CAP awarded Dr. Novis three President’s Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr. Novis has lectured and published extensively in the fields of pathology and laboratory management, on topics that include quality performance, strategic planning, lean production, and operations. He is an editorial reviewer for several medical journals.
In 2005, Dr. Novis left his medical practice to establish Novis Consulting LLC., (https://davidnovis.com) providing management, quality improvement, financial and operational services to hospitals, pathology practices and laboratories nationwide.
Dr. Novis received his undergraduate degree from Knox College, his medical degree from the University of Vermont, and his post graduate degrees from the University of California at San Francisco. He holds LEAN Certification from Henry Ford Hospital and the Pittsburgh Healthcare Initiative.
